With a Name Like Megel, It Has To Be Good

We have at least five gazillion strawberries in our garden this year. It has been so awesome. We are all strawberry lovers and have been taking advantage! We've had strawberry shortcake, strawberry spinach salad, homemade fruit roll-ups, strawberry cake, strawberry muffins, strawberry jam and eaten gallons right out of the garden. You would think we'd get tired of them, but we don't!

One afternoon of picking

I knew we had to make some jam this year since we were drowning in strawberries. Plus I figure it will save us a little money since at least one person in this house eats a pb&j every.single.day in this house. I've made freezer jam in the past, but wanted to try the boiling water method this year to save freezer space. The first batch was too runny and another batch was too thick. Sigh. It's so disappointing to do all that work and it doesn't come out the way you want. Oh well, Adam tried it and said it tasted like Smuckers so that's good enough for me! Plus I love including Abi in the process and passing down traditions to her. I'm corny that way. She loves to help with whatever Adam and I are doing right now. We definitely want to encourage that because I don't think it will last forever!

The end result: 12 half pints and 12 pints of jam!
